Basketball Recap: Islip Starts Season with Victory Against Miller Place

Islip gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They strolled past the Miller Place Panthers with points to spare, taking the game 57-43. The Buccaneers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Panthers, too.

When it comes to explaining why Miller Place lost, don't look at Ava Zicchinelli. Despite the final result, she went 8 for 17 on her way to 18 points in addition to seven boards and seven steals. That was a full 41.9% of Miller Place's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Julie Orenzo, who had 13 points.

Miller Place has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.

Islip is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game this season. they will square off against Kings Park at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Miller Place and John Glenn will compete for holiday cheer at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
