Softball Game Preview: Clinton Maroons vs. Hartsburg-Emden Stags

The Clinton Maroons will head out on the road to face off against the Hartsburg-Emden Stags at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Clinton has given up an average of 9.5 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Having struggled with seven losses in a row, Clinton turned things around against St. Teresa on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the Bulldogs 14-13. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Maroons have posted since May 6, 2024.

The team relied heavily on Hadley Humble, who went 3-for-5 with six RBI and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ariana Humes, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Clinton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Hartsburg-Emden was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 20th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 22-2 to Pleasant Plains. That's two games in a row now that the Stags have lost by exactly 20 runs.

Hartsburg-Emden's loss dropped their record down to 0-10. As for Clinton, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 3-8.
