Connecticut High School Football Rankings

Who's up and who's down

One team took the elevator way up and another took it way down in the power rankings this week. That and more in this week's report.

No Stoppin 'Em

The Hand offense has been a force to be reckoned with this season, and last week was no different. It put the hurt on Bunnell with a conclusive 56 - 0 victory. One star in particular for Hand was junior Colin McCabe, who earned five touchdowns and 175 yards rushing the ball. At 78 total points, this was the highest scoring power ranking game of the week.

Movin on Up

Ansonia was the better team in every quarter against Plainfield last week and consequently the better team overall. Everything went Ansonia's way against Plainfield as it secured a 42 - 0 win. No one had a larger role in the success than sophomore Sheldon Schuler Jr., who brought his A game into the contest. He threw for 239 yards and four touchdowns. Ansonia's success was rewarded with a six-spot boost in the power rankings, the biggest improvement of any team.

Look Out Below

Middletown couldn't hold onto the ball last week, and its three turnovers certainly didn't improve its odds for success. It was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as it fell 20 - 14 to Maloney. The defeat came about despite a quality game from senior Xzavier Reyes, who rushed for 118 yards and one touchdown. The rough outing dragged Middletown down six positions in the power rankings -- the largest fall of the week.
