Basketball Recap: Newman Grove/St. Edward Falls Despite Big Games from Katelyn Werts and Kailey Patzel

Newman Grove/St. Edward was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 45-24 to the Madison Dragons.

Despite the defeat, Newman Grove/St. Edward had strong showings from Kailey Patzel, who posted six points and 16 rebounds, and Katelyn Werts, who put up eight points. Patzel is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least nine every time she's taken the court this season. Allyx Forre was another key player, putting up eight points and six rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Madison to victory, but perhaps none more so than Salena Duinkerken, who had 12 points along with six boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Janaya Parks, who posted 12 points and three steals.

Newman Grove/St. Edward's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Madison, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Newman Grove/St. Edward Panthers take on the Winside Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Madison, they will host Plainview at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
