Basketball Recap: Fort Hamilton Comes Up Short

Fort Hamilton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 77-14 loss at the hands of East New York Family Academy. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 464th, while East New York Family Academy are ranked 58th).

Arianna Mercado was her usual excellent self, going 11 of 18 on her way to 25 points and six steals for East New York Family Academy. The game was Mercado's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Janaya Henderson, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards.

Fort Hamilton's loss dropped their record down to 1-8. As for East New York Family Academy, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fort Hamilton will take on Lincoln at 4:30 p.m. on January 15th. As for East New York Family Academy, they will head out to face off against Nazareth at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
