Softball Recap: Nine Straight Home Victories for Hidden Valley

Hidden Valley is still undefeated this season after their contest against Sweet Home on Friday, but Sweet Home came as close as anyone has to beating them. Hidden Valley narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Sweet Home 4-2. The four-run effort marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Scarlett Gordon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up 14 Ks. Those 14 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Hidden Valley let Sam Lesher and Aubree Schmidt run wild. Lesher scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances, while Schmidt scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Schmidt has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Addy Lesher also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Hidden Valley pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Sweet Home, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Looking ahead, Hidden Valley will challenge Brookings-Harbor at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Sweet Home, they will take on Marshfield at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
