Basketball Recap: Safford Comes Up Short

Safford was the 62-56 winner over Tanque Verde when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Safford Bulldogs lost to the Tanque Verde Hawks on the road by a 61-42 margin on Friday.

Leading Tanque Verde to victory were Rich Knott and Philip Knott. Rich went 8 of 12 on his way to 17 points in addition to seven boards and five assists, while Philip went 5 for 10 on his way to 12 points and five rebounds. Rich's morning made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rocco Haggard, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Safford's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Tanque Verde, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Safford and St. David will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for Tanque Verde, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on The Gregory School at 7:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025. One thing working in Tanque Verde's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine contests.
