Soccer Game Preview: American vs. Varela

American hasn't had much luck against Varela recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The American Patriots will square off against the Varela Vipers at 3:30 p.m. Varela took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on American, who comes in off a win.

American is headed in fresh off scoring the most goals they have all season. They blew past Norland 10-2 last Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Patriots needed considering they were shutout in their previous contest.

Meanwhile, Varela's game last Thursday was all tied up 1-1 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell 4-2 to TERRA Environmental. While losing is never fun, the Vipers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 229th, while TERRA Environmental are ranked 61st).

American is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-4-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 22 goals over those five matchups. As for Varela, they now have a losing record at 5-6-2.

American beat Varela by a goal in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, winning 1-0. Will American repeat their success, or does Varela have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
