Basketball Preview: St. Mary's Episcopal Turkeys vs. Briarcrest Christian Saints
St. Mary's Episcopal has been on the road for three straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. Having just played yesterday, they will get right back to it and host the Briarcrest Christian Saints at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th. St. Mary's Episcopal will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings (they are ranked 294th, while the Saints are ranked 95th).
On Monday, St. Mary's Episcopal was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 41-37 to the Stars.
Meanwhile, Briarcrest Christian put the finishing touches on their 11th blowout victory of the season on Thursday. Everything went their way against St. Agnes Academy as Briarcrest Christian made off with a 58-33 win. The win was familiar territory for Briarcrest Christian who now have four in a row.
Kendall Jones and Hallie Turner were among the main playmakers for Briarcrest Christian as the former scored 11 points along with eight steals and the latter scored ten points along with five assists and five rebounds. Jones has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ellen Adair, who scored six points along with four steals.
St. Mary's Episcopal dropped their record down to 1-6 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Briarcrest Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season.
St. Mary's Episcopal took a serious blow against the Saints in their previous meeting two weeks ago, falling 66-26. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Turner, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten assists. Now that St. Mary's Episcopal knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
