East High School football team nationally ranked on the 2016-17 TOC
On Friday, Jan. 27 the 12th Annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard made a stop in Salt Lake City, Utah to recognize the
East High School football team's season accomplishments. The Leopards won the 2016 5A football state championship and earned themselves the No. 23 spot in the MaxPreps national rankings out of 15,000 football teams nationwide.
The trophy presentation was set to take place during halftime of the boys varsity basketball game. Leading up to the event, the MaxPreps Travel Team arrived on campus and was met by Sergeant James Glad of the Utah Army National Guard who was thrilled to bestow his hometown high school the prestigious honor.

As the ceremony began, the announcer welcomed MaxPreps and the Utah Army National Guard to East High School. SGT Glad greeted the crowd and congratulated the Leopards for their impressive season. He gave a short but heartfelt message to the crowd about how the values of East High School and the championship team align with the values of the Army National Guard.
SGT then invited head coach Brandon Matich and the team to the spotlight and presented them with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy and nationally ranked rafter banner in commemoration of their nationally ranked season!
With the local media capturing the memorable occasion, a happy chaos quickly ensued as football players huddled around their coaches and a roar of applause came from the crowd.
Congratulations once again to the East High Leopards on finishing the season as highly ranked state champions!
