Basketball Game Preview: Archbishop Carroll Lions vs. St. John's Cadets

Archbishop Carroll hasn't had much luck against St. John recently, but that could start to change on Sunday. The Archbishop Carroll Lions will be playing at home against the St. John's Cadets at 3:30 p.m.

Archbishop Carroll is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: DeMatha, who was ranked third in their home state at the time (Archbishop Carroll was ranked 17th). Archbishop Carroll came up short against DeMatha on Friday, falling 74-52.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led St. John's over St. Mary's Ryken in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that St. John's blew St. Mary's Ryken out of the water with an 86-27 final score. The Cadets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten contests by 20 points or more this season.

Archbishop Carroll's defeat dropped their record down to 13-11. As for St. John's, their win bumped their record up to 16-7.

Archbishop Carroll couldn't quite finish off St. John's in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 and fell 69-67. Can Archbishop Carroll avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
