Football Recap: Denver North Takes a Loss

Denver North extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 3-6. They were dealt a 61-21 loss at the hands of the Montbello Warriors. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Although Denver North took the loss, they still got scores from Chase Pittman, Uriah Saiz, and Jacob Galvadon.

As for Montbello, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-6 record this season. That 40 point margin sets a new team best for them this season.

Montbello's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Angel Chavez, who threw for 352 yards and six touchdowns while completing 81.2% of his passes. Chavez's passing game has become a key predictor of the Warriors' success: the team is 2-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-5 otherwise. Montbello's leading receiver Zyaire Custis was Chavez's top target yet again, picking up 130 receiving yards and three scores.

Denver North wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 19-14 win against Aurora Central on the 31st. As for Montbello, they have also already played their next game, a 35-19 victory against Thomas Jefferson on the 31st.
