Softball Recap: Poplar Springs Comes Up Short

Poplar Springs was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They lost 17-7 to the Geneva County Bulldogs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Atomics of the 11-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

Marissa Bollon made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Natalee Smith, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base.

Poplar Springs' loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Geneva County, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 11-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Poplar Springs will head out to square off against Rocky Bayou Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Geneva County, they will take on Eufaula in a tournament on Monday.
