Baseball Recap: Monticello Comes Up Short

Monticello had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 0-5 to make it ten. They lost 18-1 to the Minisink Valley Warriors. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 27-11 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Minisink Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5. The matchup marked their most dominant win of the season so far.

For Minisink Valley's part, Nicholas Parco looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Parco has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Liam Barry, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Bobby Ayers also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Coming up, Monticello will be playing at home against Sullivan West at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Minisink Valley, they will head out to square off against Goshen Central at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The Warriors are facing the Gladiators at the right time seeing as the Gladiators are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
