Baseball Recap: Valley Falls Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Valley Falls entered their tilt with Jefferson County North on Wednesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Chargers 17-2. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-0 on Wednesday.

Carter Pickerell was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Pickerell was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and one stolen base. Those three doubles gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Damian Cervantez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (four). Collin Kearney was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

Valley Falls hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.

Valley Falls' record is now 11-4. As for Jefferson County North, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.

Looking ahead, Valley Falls will face off against Oskaloosa at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Jefferson County North, they will take on Valley Heights at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Chargers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
