The Hersey Huskies will square off against the Cary-Grove Trojans at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Hersey is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.

Hersey was handed a six-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Fremd 3-2. The game was the first time the Huskies have beaten the Vikings on their field since May 1, 2021.

Hersey's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Chuck Meister, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run. Bennett McNeill was another, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Cary-Grove made easy work of Fremd on Thursday and carried off an 8-2 win. Considering the Trojans have won 12 games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Hersey pushed their record up to 25-7-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Cary-Grove, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-11 record this season.

Hersey skirted past Cary-Grove 3-2 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Huskies since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
