Baseball Recap: King Philip Regional Comes Up Short

King Philip Regional fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Taunton on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 3-2. The Warriors were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Tigers earlier this season, when they won 2-0.

Cam Hasenfus was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched eight innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off 12 hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, King Philip Regional saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Vinny Menendez, who went 2-for-4 with one triple. That triple was Menendez's first of the season.

King Philip Regional's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 15-4. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. As for Taunton, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. King Philip Regional will square off against Attleboro at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bombardiers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Warriors' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Taunton, they will face off against Milford at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
