Baseball Preview: Argo Argonauts vs. Reavis Rams

Suggested Video

Argo is 0-10 against Reavis since May of 2018 but things could change on Monday. The Argonauts will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rams at 4:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Argo came up short against Crete-Monee and fell 4-1.

Argo got a good showing from Justin Arceo, who struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Arceo has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Argo saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Valente Melero, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. Jacob Sosa also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Reavis waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over the Eagles. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by six runs or more this season.

Tino Villagomez was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Juan Avila, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Reavis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Taft only posted an OBP of .333.

Reavis pushed their record up to 19-9 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Argo, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-16.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Argo has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Reavis struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Argo might still be hurting after the 11-0 loss they got from Reavis in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Argonauts avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
