League recap: Liberal propelled to win by explosive offense

Liberal led Western Athletic in scoring this week after putting up 56 points on Eisenhower. Britton Abbott threw for 262 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 182 yards in the win.

Newton Kelan put up the best numbers through the air as Dodge City fell to Maize. He finished with 35 completions for 383 yards and two touchdowns. Kelan's favorite target this week was Galloway Immanuel, who caught seven passes for 124 yards.

Trenton Hammond was the best wideout in the league this week as the Redskins bested the Tigers. Hammond tallied eight receptions for 153 yards. JJ Lewis helped Liberal's passing attack out by catching six balls for 54 yards.

Liberal's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Redskins feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Abbott has thrown for 2146 yards and 17 touchdowns this season, while Hammond has 59 catches for 1016 yards. Abbott also leads the league in rushing with 820 yards.

A big matchup in Western Athletic this week will be when the Demons take on Garden City. At the moment, Dodge City is in fourth, while the Buffaloes are in third.

Dave Foster's team fell 54-51 to the Eagles in the closest game of the week. Kelan ran for 12 yards and caught one passes for 16 yards in the loss.
