Recap: Fossil Ridge Sabercats vs. Erie Tigers
The Fossil Ridge Sabercats won the last time they faced the Erie Tigers, and things went their way on Saturday too. Fossil Ridge walked away with a 60-50 victory over Erie. Given Fossil Ridge's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while Erie is ranked 140th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Fossil Ridge's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Donovan Banek led the charge by scoring 15 points. Those 15 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Eli Nutting, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brayden Haan, who scored ten points. The matchup was Haan's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Christopher Smith, who scored 12 points.
The win makes it two in a row for Fossil Ridge and bumps their season record up to 7-3. As for Erie, they now have a losing record at 3-4.
Fossil Ridge's road trip will continue as they head out to face Brighton at 7:00 p.m. on January 9th. Brighton is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. Erie will take on Fort Collins at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fort Collins has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 330 points over their last five contests.
