Softball Preview: Thornwell Saints vs. High Point Academy Grizzlies
The Thornwell Saints will head out on the road to face off against the High Point Academy Grizzlies at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Thornwell suffered a tough 15-5 loss at the hands of Ware Shoals.
Madi Landrith made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Karleigh Porter, who went 1-for-2 with a stolen base and a double.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, High Point Academy made sure to put some runs up on the board against Southside Christian on Tuesday. High Point Academy put the hurt on Southside Christian with a sharp 14-7 victory. High Point Academy's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Julie Raines made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits. Raines has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't pitched less than five innings every time she's pitched this season. Raines was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, High Point Academy let Kyleigh Lawter and Alyx Creel loose on the outfield. Lawter went 3-for-5 with six RBI, two runs, and a stolen base, while Creel scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
