Basketball Game Preview: Westland Cougars vs. Westerville North Warriors

Having just played yesterday, the Westland Cougars will get right back to it and host the Westerville North Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Westerville North took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Westland, who comes in off a win.

Westland will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up 21 points on Friday, then bounced right back against Marion-Franklin on Monday. Everything went Westland's way against Marion-Franklin as Westland made off with a 65-40 victory. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Cougars' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

Westland's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tresia Spillman, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine boards. The dominant performance gave Spillman a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Arianna Fee, who went 8 for 12 on her way to 18 points and four steals.

Meanwhile, Westerville North was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their tenth straight defeat. They were beaten by Westerville South 66-33. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 658th, while the Wildcats are ranked 67th).

Westerville North's loss dropped their record down to 1-16. As for Westland, their victory bumped their record up to 2-16.

Westland was taken down by Westerville North 68-16 in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Westland was down 36-13.
