Softball Game Preview: Wekiva Mustangs vs. Dr. Phillips Panthers

The Wekiva Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Dr. Phillips Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wekiva has given up an average of 14.1 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Wekiva is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Wednesday. They came up short against Windermere, falling 17-1.

Dr. Phillips never got on the board in their matchup on Wednesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Lake Buena Vista on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Vipers. Considering the Panthers have won eight games by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Samantha Rome was a standout: she scored three runs while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Briana Lohr, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

Dr. Phillips always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Wekiva's loss dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Dr. Phillips, their record now sits at 10-5.

Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Wekiva has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .471. However, it's not like Dr. Phillips struggles in that department as they've averaged .475. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Wekiva suffered a grim 21-5 defeat to Dr. Phillips in their previous matchup back in February. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
