Basketball Recap: Salmen Takes a Loss

Salmen was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 61-50 to the Bourgeois Braves. The Spartans lost against the Braves in their previous head to head back in December of 2019, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 74-41 score last time.

Despite the loss, Salmen still got an impressive performance from Akayla Mcmooain, who went 12 of 17 on her way to 29 points in addition to eight boards and four blocks. Those 29 points gave Mcmooain a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Parris Powell, who posted five points along with five assists and three steals.

Even though they lost, Salmen smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Salmen's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Bourgeois, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.

Salmen will challenge Carver Collegiate Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Carver Collegiate Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Bourgeois, they will take on Vandebilt Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Bourgeois will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak.
