Football Recap: Leigh Runs Past Live Oak

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Leigh ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top against the Live Oak Acorns by a score of 35-28. For the Longhorns, this counts as revenge for the 14-0 win the Acorns walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2024.

Blake Zanger had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 225 yards and three TDs while picking up 11.3 yards per carry, and also picking up 46 receiving yards. Those 225 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Miles Huntington, who punched in one rushing score.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Leigh was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 238 rushing yards. They are a perfect 3-0 when they've run for more than 200 yards.

Live Oak's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gage Jones, who rushed for 251 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Jones is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 161 every time he's taken the field this season. Adrian Leal helped out on the ground, rushing for 92 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Leigh's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 5-4. As for Live Oak, their record is now 7-2.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Leigh is set to square off against their familiar foe Branham at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 954 yards in their previous games. Meanwhile, Live Oak will challenge rival Christopher at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
