Softball Game Preview: Cowan Blackhawks vs. Madison-Grant Argylls

The Cowan Blackhawks are taking a road trip to challenge the Madison-Grant Argylls at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Cowan has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with four straight defeats, while Madison-Grant will come in with six straight victories.

New Castle hit Cowan with a five-run seventh inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Blackhawks lost 9-1 to the Trojans.

Candice Matson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, Madison-Grant was not the first on the board on Friday, but they got there more often. They were the clear victors by a 12-6 margin over Wes-Del. The Argylls might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matches by six runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Delaney Pavey, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mae Ricks, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Madison-Grant's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-6. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Cowan, their loss dropped their record down to 6-12.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Cowan hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Madison-Grant struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Cowan might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Madison-Grant when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Blackhawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
