Volleyball Recap: Washburn Takes a Loss

Washburn lost against Gatlinburg-Pittman back in October of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Pirates fell just short of the Highlanders by a score of 3-2. While the Pirates didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Highlanders 25-16 in the first set.

Washburn actually scored more points across those five sets (106-93), but sadly they still had to settle for second. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 16-25, 25-20, 25-23, 12-25, 15-13.

Abigail Epperson paced Washburn's offense, picking up 14 kills. Epperson got some help from Kylie Ferguson and her 32 assists. Epperson was also solid from the service line: she led the team with five aces.

Washburn now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Gatlinburg-Pittman, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

Washburn has already played their next game, a 3-0 win against Eagleton College & Career Academy on the 26th. Gatlinburg-Pittman has also already played their next contest (against Cocke County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
