Basketball Game Preview: Lubbock Westerners vs. Amarillo Sandies

Lubbock hasn't had much luck against Amarillo recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Lubbock Westerners will welcome the Amarillo Sandies at 4:30 p.m.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 74-43, which was the final score in Lubbock's tilt against Monterey on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Westerners can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 524th, while the Plainsmen are ranked sixth).

Meanwhile, Amarillo came tearing into Tuesday's contest with 12 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.9 points) and they left with even more momentum. They really took it to the Longhorns for the full four quarters, racking up an 86-19 victory. The Sandies have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 23 points or more this season.

Amarillo's win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 36.8 points. As for Lubbock, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-10.
