Basketball Recap: Model Secondary School for the Deaf Sets Scoring Season-High Against BASIS

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Model Secondary School for the Deaf). They had just enough and edged the BASIS Red Giants out 66-63. The win was all the more spectacular given the Eagles' disadvantage in MaxPreps' District of Columbia basketball rankings (they are ranked 264th, while the Red Giants are ranked 39th).

It was another big night for Johan Hewapathirana, who posted 43 points. His evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Donovan Schneck, who earned ten points.

Despite the loss, BASIS still got an impressive performance from Timothy Chamberlain II, who scored 39 points. Chamberlain II has been hot for a while, having posted 18 or more points the last 29 times he's played. Xander Sehgal was another key player, putting up nine points.

Model Secondary School for the Deaf's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-12. As for BASIS, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.

Model Secondary School for the Deaf wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 51-46 defeat against Washington Waldorf on the 23rd. As for BASIS, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 85-48 loss against Washington Leadership Academy on the 23rd.
