League recap: Wallace-Rose Hill climbs in state rankings with win

Wallace-Rose Hill moved up to 172 from 209 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 1A Tri-County. The Bulldogs climbed the ranks as a result of a 13-10 win over Midway.

Wallace-Rose Hill was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in the league. Joey Price's team beat the Raiders 13-10 earlier in the week.

James Kenan's dynamic duo of Dominique Barnes and Marcelias Sutton proved tough for Hobbton to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Barnes threw for 138 yards and three touchdowns and Sutton had 110 yards receiving. James Owens helped James Kenan's passing attack out by catching one ball for 28 yards.

Baird Kilpatrick made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Tigers defeated the Wildcats. The 6-foot-1 senior grabbed one sack.

Alfredo Garcia provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Union topped Pender. He completed six passes for 145 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 33 yards. Garcia's favorite target this week was Tim Smith, who caught three passes for 90 yards.

Bakeem Murphy was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 62 yards on eight carries as the Spartans defeated Hobbton.

5-foot-9 quarterback Garcia of Union is the league leader in passing yards this season with 358. He has also thrown three touchdowns. On the ground, Ken Avent's team's Sutton has rushed for 571 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Sutton. The James Kenan star has three catches for 186 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Lakewood takes on Midway. The Leopards are currently in second, while Paul Hall's team is in third.

The Tigers extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Dwight Harper's team, 28-0. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
