It's always good to get a second opinion.

One day after Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.) received word that it would be without five-star tackle Christian Westerman for the Class 5A Division I state football playoffs, another doctor said the initial read on the MRI was incorrect.

What were originally believed to be micro fractures in both vertical bones below Westerman's left knee – the result of a hit on the side of the leg in Monday's practice – turned out to be just deep bone bruises.

Westerman will remain in a walking brace but will begin rehabilitation soon and should be ready for the state semifinals on Dec. 3 if Hamilton advances that far.

Westerman is listed by several scouting services as one of the five best senior recruits in the nation. The 6-foot-5, 295-pound All-American has been the anchor of an Huskies offensive line that many longtime Arizona prep observers believe is the best in the state's history.

Top-seeded Hamilton opens the 5A-I playoffs Friday at home against 16th-seeded Westwood (Mesa, Ariz.).
