Softball Recap: Dos Pueblos Takes a Loss

Dos Pueblos extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 10-12 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Royal Highlanders. The Chargers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Highlanders apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2016.

Juliana Brunner put in work while hitting and pitching. She tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Brooklyn Hedricks made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Anastasia Brunner was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

As for Royal, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.4 runs over those games.

Like Dos Pueblos, Royal also got a great game from a two-way player: Julianna Galbraith. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over eight innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Galbraith was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Marilyn Augusta, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Hayden Miller, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Coincidentally, Dos Pueblos and Royal will both be playing Oaks Christian the next time they take the field. The Chargers will host the Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Highlanders will play them later in the day, at 7:00 p.m.
