Bear Grass Charter waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They put the hurt on the Gates County Red Barons with a sharp 11-1 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 13-2 on March 11th.

Michael Gurganus made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). He has been consistent : he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Hunter Best and Hayden Willoughby did most of the damage at the plate: Best scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Willoughby scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Bear Grass Charter hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gates County struck out nine times.

Bear Grass Charter pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Gates County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.

Bear Grass Charter has already played their next matchup, a 19-0 victory against Mattamuskeet on the 28th. As for Gates County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 13-3 loss against Tarboro on the 28th.
