Baseball Game Preview: Wheeling Wildcats vs. Rolling Meadows Mustangs

For the second straight game, Wheeling will face off against Rolling Meadows. The Wildcats will be playing at home against the Mustangs at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Wheeling hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.

Wheeling came up short against Rolling Meadows on Tuesday, falling 10-1.

For Rolling Meadows' part, Luke Schneider made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits (and only one walk). Schneider has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jack O'Callaghan, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Quinn Hextall was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Rolling Meadows pushed their record up to 17-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Wheeling, their loss dropped their record down to 9-9.
