Greeley West falls despite strong effort from Andrew Zepeda

The Greeley West Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their tenth straight loss. They took a 70-66 hit to the loss column at the hands of Greeley Central. Greeley West has not had much luck with Greeley Central recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

When it comes to explaining why Greeley West lost, one person who can't be blamed is Andrew Zepeda. Despite the final result, he scored 25 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. The team also got some help courtesy of River Ortiz, who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Greeley West smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greeley Central only pulled down 11 offensive rebounds.

Greeley Central's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Daniel Martinez, who scored 21 points along with four steals. Martinez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Reid Arlo richardson, who scored 21 points along with two steals.

Greeley West has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 13 of their last 14 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-18 record this season. As for Greeley Central, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-12.

Greeley West will challenge Longmont at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Greeley West is coming into the matchup with 11 straight losses on the road, meaning Longmont will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win. As for Greeley Central, they will be playing at home against Silver Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Greeley Central will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 155th, while Silver Creek is ranked 27th).
