Basic has gone 9-1 against Liberty recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Basic Wolves will head out on the road to challenge the Liberty Patriots at 3:30 p.m. Basic's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Liberty's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Basic is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Orange Lutheran, who was ranked seventh in their home state at the time (Basic was ranked first). Basic fell 6-1 to Orange Lutheran on Thursday. The matchup marked the Wolves' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Tate Southisene made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base. Ace Sapp also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Liberty got the win against Bishop Moore on Thursday by a conclusive 12-6. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Patriots.

Jaydrien Klein-Baker and Austin Rodriguez did most of the damage at the plate: Klein-Baker went 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and one run. The dominant performance gave Rodriguez a new career-high in hits. Chris Onoszko was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Liberty kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive games.

Basic's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Liberty, their win bumped their record up to 9-4.

Everything went Basic's way against Liberty in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Basic made off with an 11-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Basic since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
