Recap: Leake County Gators vs. Taylorsville Tartars

After flying high against the Stringer Red Devils last Friday, The Leake County Gators came back down to earth. Leake County was outmatched by Taylorsville on the road and fell 63-8. Leake County was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 56-8.

Despite the loss, Leake County still got an impressive performance from Carnez Thomas, who picked up 106 receiving yards and a touchdown. Thomas was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 62 yards.

Cobey Craft was a one-man wrecking crew for Taylorsville as he rushed for 133 yards and three touchdowns on only seven carries. Calvin Scott was in the mix as well, providing Taylorsville with two touchdowns.

Leake County's loss was their ninth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 2-8. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 10.0 points per game. As for Taylorsville, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-5.

Leake County will head out on the road to face off against West Tallahatchie at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. As for Taylorsville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against West Bolivar at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. West Bolivar will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 258th, while Taylorsville is ranked 104th).
