Baseball Recap: Thompson Valley's Luck Changes for the Better on Monday

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Thompson Valley ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They walked away with a 6-3 win over the Timnath Cubs. This was a revenge game for the Eagles: when they faced off against the Cubs on Saturday, they had to take a 20-15 defeat.

Thompson Valley got a great performance from Malachi Dougherty as he struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave Dougherty a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Garet Hendrickson, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024.

The victory snapped Thompson Valley's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-8 record. As for Timnath, they dropped their record down to 8-8 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Thompson Valley will venture away from home to square off against Loveland at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Red Wolves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.75 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Timnath, they are taking a road trip to face off against Resurrection Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Cubs surely won't give up without a fight.
