Recap: KIPP vs. Champaign Central Maroons
If KIPP were riding high off their 81-43 takedown of the Gateway Science Academy Gators last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. KIPP's2023 ended with a 54-35 defeat against Champaign Central on Thursday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points KIPP has scored all season.
Champaign Central was led to victory by Chris Bush and Luke Swanson. Bush scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks, while Swanson scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Those nine rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Aidyn Beck was another key contributor, scoring two points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
KIPP's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Champaign Central, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. KIPP will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Brentwood on January 5th. Champaign Central won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Centralia at 7:45 p.m. on December 29, 2023. Centralia is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
