Hoopa Valley had lost three games straight , but after bumping their record up to 13-10 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. Everything went their way against the St. Bernard's Crusaders as they made off with a 9-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.
Brandon Romero made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Hoopa Valley: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 8-9 otherwise.
In other batting news, Allen Kane was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Hoopa Valley is undefeated when Kane posts two or more stolen bases, but 8-10 otherwise.
As for St. Bernard's, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 17-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss they have suffered since May 17, 2024.
Like Hoopa Valley, St. Bernard's also got a great game from a two-way player: T.C. Rinker. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Rinker has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs.
Rinker wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Maples, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was Maples' first of the season.
Hoopa Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for St. Bernard's, they will head out to square off against Arcata at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
