Baseball Recap: Chenango Valley Gets the Win

Chenango Valley won the last time they faced Norwich and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Warriors walked away with a 7-3 win over the Purple Tornado.

Jimmy Fitzgerald made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Chenango Valley is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 3-8 otherwise. Fitzgerald was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ty Stafford, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one double. He has become a key player for Chenango Valley: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 5-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was DJ Steen, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

Chenango Valley's victory bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Norwich, they dropped their record down to 0-16 with the defeat, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.

When Chenango Valley and Norwich next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Warriors will face off against Windsor Central and their five-game winning streak at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Norwich will try to stop Johnson City's three-game winning streak when they meet at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
