Basketball Game Preview: Yorktown Patriots vs. Herndon Hornets

Yorktown is on a seven-game streak of home losses, Herndon a five-game streak of away losses dating back to last season, but someone's luck will change on Thursday. The Yorktown Patriots will face off against the Herndon Hornets at 7:30 p.m. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Last Friday, Yorktown came up short against Langley and fell 40-33. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 199th, while the Saxons are ranked 17th).

Meanwhile, Herndon came up short against McLean on Tuesday, falling 62-37.

Yorktown's defeat dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Herndon, their loss dropped their record down to 1-10.

Yorktown didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Herndon in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 38-34 victory. Will Yorktown repeat their success, or does Herndon have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
