Basketball Recap: Capital Gets the Win

It was a proper cat-fight when Capital challenged Expression Prep Academy on Thursday. The Capital Cougars sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 69-66 victory over the Expression Prep Academy Lions. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.

Despite the defeat, Expression Prep Academy had strong showings from Mitchell Cox, who went 10 for 19 on his way to 27 points in addition to seven steals and five boards, and Rasheed Morrison, who went 10 of 16 on his way to 26 points in addition to eight rebounds and five assists. Cox is becoming a predictor of Expression Prep Academy's success: when he posts at least three steals the team is undefeated (and 0-5 when he doesn't).

Capital now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Expression Prep Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Capital will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Cabell Midland at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for Expression Prep Academy, they will take on South Webster in a tournament on Saturday.
