Softball Recap: Mulberry Beats Lakeland for Their Sixth Straight Win

Mulberry had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over the Lakeland Dreadnaughts. With that victory, the Panthers brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Jaylyn Oschmann was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Lorianys Castanon Cruz, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Mulberry always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lakeland only posted an OBP of .250.

Mulberry's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-4. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 8.75 hits in those games compared to only 4.5 in the others. As for Lakeland, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.

Mulberry didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 3-1 defeat against Prospect on the 21st. As for Lakeland, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Avon Park at 7:30 p.m. on the 24th. Lakeland's pitchers better be ready for this one: Avon Park has averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season.
