Baseball Recap: Leyden Takes a Loss

Leyden suffered their biggest defeat since May 3rd on Friday. They lost 10-2 to the Niles North Vikings. If the Eagles were looking for revenge after losing 10-0 to the Vikings when the teams met back in March of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Leyden saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joey O'Neill, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run.

Leyden has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 16-15 record this season. As for Niles North, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-17-1 record this season.

Leyden and Niles North could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Eagles will take on Fenwick at 10:00 a.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (271 vs. 127). Meanwhile, Niles North (ranked 324th) will meet Lakes (ranked 155th) at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
