Durant hasn't had much luck against Newsome recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. Durant will host Newsome at 7:00 p.m. Durant is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Durant didn't have quite enough to beat Bloomingdale and fell 5-3. That's two games in a row now that the Cougars have lost by exactly two runs.
Durant saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lennox Ullrich, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Newsome came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 9-5. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 22, 2022, but that streak is no more.
Allyson Conner tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Arriana N Williams was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while going 3-for-3. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ashley Nordberg, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Newsome kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive games.
Newsome's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Durant, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Both Durant and Newsome just can't seem to miss. Durant has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Newsome struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Durant skirted past Newsome 6-4 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Does Durant have another victory up their sleeve, or will Newsome turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
