Baseball Recap: New Providence Comes Up Short

New Providence lost a heartbreaker to Cranford when they met back in April of 2024, and they left with a heavy heart again on Friday. The Pioneers took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cougars. The contest marked the Pioneers' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

New Providence got a good showing from Andrew Kruep, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Kruep has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, New Providence saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kyle Felt, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

New Providence's record is now 2-8. As for Cranford, they pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Coming up, New Providence will head out on the road to square off against Madison at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pioneers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dodgers have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season. As for Cranford, they will square off against Union Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
