Softball Recap: Wilmington Beats Hickory for Their Third Straight Win

Wilmington posted their closest victory since May 2, 2024 on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out the Hickory Hornets 1-0. The Greyhounds have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Hornets, too.

Wilmington saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kyla Baney, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

The win (which was Wilmington's third in a row) raised their record to 6-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Hickory, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wilmington will head out to challenge Mercer at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hickory, they will venture away from home to take on Slippery Rock at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
