Softball Recap: Make It Six in a Row for Sunnyside

Sunnyside entered their tilt with Walden Grove on Thursday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Red Wolves a 9-0 shutout. Considering the Blue Devils have won ten matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Tatyana Vega made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Bianca Cobo was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Gonsalez, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

Sunnyside was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .353 or higher in six consecutive games.

Sunnyside's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-6-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Walden Grove, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-10.

Coming up, Sunnyside will head out to face off against Vista Grande at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Walden Grove, they will square off against Tucson High Magnet School at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
