Softball Recap: Cuba-Rushford's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

Cuba-Rushford dropped their record down to 5-4 on Friday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They lost 16-0 to the Wellsville Lions. The Rebels were red-hot at the plate heading into the match (they scored no less than ten runs in the three contests prior), but the Lions' pitchers proved too tough.

As for Wellsville, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by eight runs or more this season.

For Wellsville's part, Kennedy Perry made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Perry has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Makenna Dunbar, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and four runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Ayla Faulkner, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Cuba-Rushford will venture away from home to face off against Andover at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Wellsville, they will welcome Hornell at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in the Lions' favor as the squad sits on 19 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while the Red Raiders have been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.
